Mint blushed at the sudden compliment. She wasn’t used to the idea of a boy she just met calling her gorgeous. “Oh I- uh, um…” Mint shook her head and stood up straight. “Nice to meet you, Kai! And I am in highschool, I’m a junior.” She took a minute to imagine having a cute new friend in the same class with her and grinned. “Maybe we do have the same classes, you know?”

“Well, I’ll look for you when classes start up again, ey?” He winked, grin widening. “Yeah, I’m a junior, too! Just turned seventeen a couple months ago! Maybe we can partner up for projects or something; that’d be lots of fun, hmm?” His eyes crinkled up as he chuckled lightly. She had seemed so surprised when he called her gorgeous. A couple weeks of hanging out with him would change that, hopefully.

Mint tried to hide her sudden excitement. “Y-yeah that’d be gr-.. I mean, if I’m available and all…” She flipped her glossy teal hair in an attempt to seem cool, but having never really flirted with a boy before, she ended up looking rather silly. “So um, have you met Daisy? I live with her above the flower shop, so if you ever wanted to stop by and-“ Mint stopped mid-sentence and anxiously looked around. Crap maybe that was pushing it a bit too much. She looked up at the tan boy and smiled awkwardly.

He smirked slightly. He’d seen girls who had never flirted before, and he had to admit, it was cute. And it was flattering that she was trying. His cheeks took on a slightly darker tinge as he replied. “What? Oh, yeah, I met Daisy at the beach the other day! Nice girl. You help out at her flower shop?” He grinned at her sweetly. “You know, I might just do that. There aren’t a ton of flowers around the hotel I’m staying at; it’s a little more low-key than that.” Kai pushed his hands into his pockets, his smile a bit silly.

@Mint ;D

He grinned wider, tilting his head. It had at least gotten her to stop apologizing for a minute. “Well, yeah, why not? I think it’d be fun. Don’t you?”

At her next words, his smile faltered and ended up looking more like a pout. “That makes it seem like going on a date with me is a bad thing… I hope I don’t seem like that big of a stick in the mud.” Kai crossed his arms, his shoulders drooping slightly. “And the name thing is easily remedied. Th’ name is Kai. And yours, beautiful?”

“Hey, I didn’t mean it that way…” Popuri assured as she placed her hand on his arm in attempt to comfort him. “Uh, I meant that I’m the stick in the mud. I bet you have loads of girls dying to date you right?”

Popuri shrugged, taking her hand off him. “Alright, yeah, I’ll go on a date with you!” she said, returning to her usual self. “And my name’s Popuri.” There was a pause of silence, and Popuri suddenly realized what happened. She broke into a fit of giggles, holding onto Kai’s arm once again, to stop her from falling over.

He shook his head, offering her a light smile. “Maybe you just weren’t around the right person. Dating is fun! And if your dates weren’t fun for you, then… well, I can fix that.” Kai gave her a wink, chuckling and perking back up again as she finally agreed.

“Great! Then we can j-” He cut himself off as she started giggling, holding onto her and starting to laugh himself. “What’re we laughin’ at, ey?”

He watched her carefully for another few moments after her triumphant noise, grinning slightly. With a sigh, he waded a little ways away and went back to floating. Once he was afloat, he let his eyes drift shut and hummed a little bit.

Kai dozed off, lazily floating around in the sun with a contented smile on his face.

Eventually, Daisy could float without thinking too hard about keeping herself up. She let the sun warm the exposed top of her body, and the water held the rest. It was truly relaxing; a perfect feeling for her day off.

Feeling completely gone in her relaxed state, Daisy didn’t feel the occasional wave drift her closer to shore until sand made a shushing noise against her back. Disoriented, she sat up and blinked. “Oops…” She squinted out to sea, noticing Kai still in the water. She waved her arm and called out. “Heeey!~ I’ll be going now! I’ve got to make dinner!” Caught up with meeting a new friend, and playing and swimming, she barely noticed how hungry she was!

Disoriented, he woke up, still floating as he shifted his head to find the source of the voice before lifting a hand and waving. Unfortunately, this threw him off balance and he ended up sinking, only to come up a few seconds later, caught between laughing and sputtering as he raised his hand to continue waving.

“Later, Daisy-doll!”

He smiled slightly; she sounded like his little sister. “No you won’t. We were made to float on water, sweetheart.” He kept her legs up and level with the water, letting them lightly rest on his palms under the water.

“Listen, just relax, and I mean, really relax. Maybe tighten your tummy a little bit, that’ll help keep your legs up, but just let yourself float.” He let his hands drift down away from her legs slowly as he spoke, his eyes darting between her face and her legs to make sure they weren’t sinking again.

She listened intently, she didn’t want to sink and get water in her nose or mouth…sea water tasted bad! Nodding a little, she followed his instructions, still a bit frustrated with herself for not remembering how to float. Instead of straining, she straightened out some and let out the breath she held.

His hands were under her, and the water wasn’t deep, plus, she could swim if it came down to it. She let herself go, and almost flinched when she felt her ears go under, but she stayed afloat! Eyes closed, she smiled; she didn’t want to get too excited and lose her position. Quietly, mouth closed and concentrated, she let out a triumphant “hm-hm!”

He watched her carefully for another few moments after her triumphant noise, grinning slightly. With a sigh, he waded a little ways away and went back to floating. Once he was afloat, he let his eyes drift shut and hummed a little bit.

When she started flailing, he turned onto his side in the water, his feet reaching the bottom and landing nimbly. Kai started wading towards her, reaching out to hold onto her shoulder. “Wait! Hold up, Daisy, calm down! Floating is all about relaxing; here, I’ll help you out a bit. Just lay back again and stay still for a moment.”

He smiled at her reassuringly, bending his neck forward a little ways. “Come on, I’ll help hold your legs up until you get it.”

Until he reached her, she continued to be frustrated with herself. After all, she’d taught her younger brother to swim! Floating should have come to her like that! At the sound of Kai’s voice, she stopped abruptly and ended up back on her knees.

With his advice, she puffed out her cheeks in a pout, but laid back, trying to keep her legs from kicking about. “I…I’ll just sink back down!” Despite her words, she let him support her legs, and took a deep breath to keep her torso up.

He smiled slightly; she sounded like his little sister. “No you won’t. We were made to float on water, sweetheart.” He kept her legs up and level with the water, letting them lightly rest on his palms under the water.

When he resurfaced, he was on his back, floating along easily. Kai reached up to cross his arms behind his head, squirting water that he had accidentally gotten in his mouth out between his teeth. When he was sure there was none left, he glanced at Daisy from the corner of his eye, grinning.

“C’mon, the water is perfect for relaxing! You can get some sun, too, if you want.” His eyes lingered on her before he turned them away in a show of respect that would probably go unnoticed; she didn’t seem to realize just how pretty she was. And he wasn’t sure she realized what she looked like with her shirt and shorts all soaked through.

Daisy had already stood and was wading a bit closer. Now that she was used to the water, it felt nice in the hot sun.

“That sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it.” Although she didn’t quite catch why he was looking at her, she did notice. She looked down at her soaked clothes and assumed he was worried about that. She shrugged, smiling in a gesture that said “it’s okay” and laid back in the water herself. Daisy closed her eyes, trying to float up, but her face ended up looking strained. Her legs were still touching the bottom of the water.

“C’mon! Go up!” She flailed in the water, flustered.

When she started flailing, he turned onto his side in the water, his feet reaching the bottom and landing nimbly. Kai started wading towards her, reaching out to hold onto her shoulder. “Wait! He laughed at her attempts to splash him, ending up swallowing a mouthful of saltwater and sputtering comically. When he’d recovered, he dunked himself under the water, cutting a neat path underwater with strong strokes until he reached her, popping up and shaking his head, water spraying everywhere as he grinned widely.

Swimming backwards for a few feet, he lifted a hand and blew her a cheeky kiss before disappearing underwater again, leaving no indication as to where he’d gone.

She didn’t intentionally mean to make him drink the stuff, and reached out to help him. “Ah! I didn’t-” Her apology was interrupted by him recovering and going underwater. She was relieved that it didn’t bother him much, but lost her balance when he popped in front of her.

The water wasn’t too deep where they were playing, so her shoulders and up weren’t submerged; she was already soaked, so she didn’t mind. Laughing, she watched him gesture to her, then disappear again. She blew a damp piece of hair from her face. “That guy..” She giggled.

When he resurfaced, he was on his back, floating along easily. Kai reached up to cross his arms behind his head, squirting water that he had accidentally gotten in his mouth out between his teeth. When he was sure there was none left, he glanced at Daisy from the corner of his eye, grinning.
